Yoana Samper de Walschap, MA

 

Executive Director

 

Yoana Walschap is the Director of the Energy Institute of the Americas (EIA) at the Sarkeys Energy Center at the University of Oklahoma. A US citizen, born in Colombia, Walschap has ample experience in Latin America and Europe. She is fluent in Spanish, French and English. She holds a Master of Science in Anthropology from the State University of New York and a Bachelor degree from Los Andes University in Colombia.

 

 

Yoana Walschap has been associated with the Institute since it’s establishment in 1995 being named director in 2002. During her nine years of working with the EIA she has been exceptionally successful in connecting Oklahoma businesses with Latin American partners, expanding the outreach educational and research activities of the Sarkeys Energy Center and in bringing over 200 Latin American students to study at OU. The EIA has an ample network of contacts in the Western Hemisphere ranging from universities, research centers, private and public sector. Besides the countries where the Institute has official members, the EIA has partners in Peru, Bolivia and Guatemala.

Since 2001 she has been coordinating an interdisciplinary master program in Managerial Energy Economics jointly with the French Petroleum Institute. This dual degree program has brought students from all over the world, with students from all the continents.

Since 1999 she has been a representative for INGEPET (International Seminar in Exploration and Exploitation of Oil and Gas) held every three years in Lima, Peru; she is currently an external advisor for SKYLYNK, a leading source of corporate and business continuing education and training throughout Latin America.

She has been very active in the Hispanic and Colombian community in Oklahoma organizing cultural, educational and civic events. Founder and President of ARCO, Association Remembering Colombia in Oklahoma, and the Advisor for the Colombian Student Association at the University of Oklahoma. She has been a member of the Board for the Latino Community Development Agency in Oklahoma City for the past five years.
